Water, sewer, and
natural gas service are all provided to homes and businesses by the City
of Mt. Pleasant. Electricity is provided by the Mt. Pleasant Power
System.
Water: The town’s water supply is from four natural springs located
about ten miles south of town. The water is of very high quality and is
treated and distributed from a plant located in the Sandy Hook community.
The town is also now in the process of developing a Long-Term Strategic
Water Plan that will protect our water supply, treatment capabilities, and
distribution system for many, many years. |
Sewer: The town will soon complete construction of a new
sewage lagoon system located on former phosphate mining property. The lagoon
system will handle all the town’s sewage for many years to come and will
allow us to abandon the current sewage treatment plant which is at the end
of its life span. Billings for sewer service are tied to water consumption.
Natural Gas: The town operates its own gas system and makes its
natural gas purchases through the Muni-Gas program in order to manage
product costs. The program allows to buy natural gas at a discount from
market price and also allows us to buy in advance to avoid winter
price-spikes. Any discount we achieve from market price is passed on fully
to residential customers. Industrial customers can also participate in our
Muni-Gas discount if they choose to do so.

Electricity: The Mount Pleasant Power System (MPPS) has spent
millions of dollars over the past several years upgrading its system. MPPS
is now a modern, efficient power company that serves the city of Mt.
Pleasant and the surrounding area. Whatever your requirements, you will find
their staff to be courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable. (www.mountpleasantpower.com.)
Call Before You
Dig:
Planning a home improvement job? Planting a
tree? Installing a fence or deck? WAIT! Here's what you need to know first:
·
Whether you are planning to do it
yourself or hire a professional, smart digging means calling 811 before each
job.
· Homeowners
often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their
utility lines marked, but every digging job requires a call – even small
projects like planting trees and shrubs. The depth of utility lines varies
and there may be multiple utility lines in a common area.
· Digging
without calling can disrupt service to an entire neighborhood, harm you and
those around you and potentially result in fines and repair costs. Calling
811 before every digging job gets your underground utility lines marked for
free and helps prevent undesired consequences.
