The City of

Mount Pleasant, TN

     Like many Tennessee towns and cities, Mt. Pleasant has a City Manager – Commissioner form of government. There are five members of the Board of Commissioners who are elected at large with staggered four year terms. The Mayor is then chosen by the Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners then appoints a City Manager to conduct the town’s day-to-day business affairs.


The Board of Commissioners meets on the third Tuesday of each month at City Hall at 7:00 PM. All meetings are open to the public. Work sessions are held as needed. These sessions simply give board members an opportunity to gather information and study special issues in a bit more depth.



A Planning Commission and a Board of Zoning Appeals meets as necessary.

     The City Charter for Mt. Pleasant is a grant from the State of Tennessee and officially defines how the town will be organized and conduct  business affairs.
